LESSONS EXTRACTED FROM THE NELSON MANDELA ANNUAL LECTURE HELD ON 17 JULY 2018

Thursday, July 19, 2018

As Smith Bekwa Inc, we heed the “Thuma Mina” call. We subscribe to some of the lessons and values extracted from the Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture held yesterday, 17 July 2018-

  1. We join the call to take action and inspire change, not as sentimental utterances, but based on hard evidence. This is evident in our cash donation towards the worthy cause of the Frida Hartley Shelter.
  2. Change happens through the actions of a collective. Thus, we must fight the temptation to believe that change rests only on the shoulders of persons, such as an Obama, Mandela, Ramaphosa. We must fight the temptation to be cynical.
  3. We must remain hopeful and believe in humanity, believe in and enforce everyone’s right to dignity and integrity.

09 AUGUST 2018

We celebrate Woman’s Month, but we are cognisant that the battle for women empowerment and equality, on multiple fronts, is an uphill one. The social ills of child and woman abuse that plague us as South Africans indeed leave us with a sense of discouragement, hopelessness and despair, but we must forge on, as individual citizens and civil society to fight the good fight, as a priority, within all levels of our society. It is not easy, but we dare not give up.

Happy Woman’s Day.
